Dr. Seuss

This week we completed our look at Dr. Seuss. I have had requests to continue our look at Dr. Seuss next week by the children and will incorporate The Shape of Me and Other Stuff into our Valentine/ Heart week. We started this week with Fox in Socks. We looked at other tongue twisters and limericks, including "The Limerick Song," Peter Piper Picked a Peck of Pickled Peppers," and "How Much Wood Could a Woodchuck Chuck." We also played games with socks and placed the socks on our hands and feet for a sensory experience. The sock game is from Melissa Childers at TpT.

We had a "tweetle beetle battle" and painted with edible "blue goo.

We used our cardboard blocks to build as inspired by the book.

We also sorted insects with our math manipulatives.

For the book, Dr. Seuss's ABC: An Amazing Alphabet Book!
we painted with feathers, worked with puzzles with words from our books and explored our ABC's. The letter matching activity is from this link.

For One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, we found fish in the sensory table and had fish shapes to use with the light table.

We also used the number match fish from this site with our ice fishing game. We completed a charting exercise from this link as well.

We made footprints in play dough to measure with cubes and paper clips as we charted the different sizes for The Foot Book.

We also enjoyed a texture path with giant bubble wrap at the end to pop.

We painted with our feet as inspired by Teach Preschool and ended with footprint designs.

We had a green breakfast for our final book, Green Eggs and Ham.

We also painted with three different shades of green at the easel and made green "explosions" with green vinegar in baking soda.

Some of the sensory and small motor development that is included weekly includes our instruments and the containers for our light table activities. The use of these items assist in developing those small muscles that are used for writing.

We also had a DQ treat at the end of the week as our local DQ opened for the season.

We had a great time with Dr. Seuss and the children didn't want the week to end. Here are some of the other items built this week in the block area.

Next week, we will take a look at Valentine's, hearts and friendship. Until then, enjoy a video of one of our favorite circle time songs.
